Born in Java, spent childhood close to the pristine forest in Borneo, and living in an abundance of Balinese culture made Tya experience a diverse point of view about her land, Indonesia. Most of her teenage life was nurtured by nature, surrounded by people and places that give her knowledge about local wisdom. Fenced in mesmerizing nature and fascinating culture have pushed her consistent instinct to conserve.
Tya experience lived abroad for some years for education matters. For the past 5 years, Tya has been actively involved in research and community building related to sustainable cocoa development in Indonesia. These activities involved her in-depth grassroots life. Working directly with women’s farmer empowerment programs, involving young people in the agricultural sector, and lobbying advocacy activities for better agricultural policies. The implementation of this program has equipped her with sharp analytical skills using practical research tools, including GALS (gender analysis learning for sustainability) and MSC (most significant change) related to participatory monitoring and evaluation programs. She found a love for the place and the people in this sector. Those develop newfound value in her life, which she wants to implement in a sustainable way through Balini Organic business model.
